| What
Hands Can Tell You About
Travel and Adventure
Are there really
lines that speak of travel and adventure in your hands? There are,
but to understand what they really mean, we need to turn back the
clock and take a look at what ancient practices were really trying
to tell us.
Hand Analysis is one of the oldest forms of divination on the planet
and understanding its roots gives us greater insights into its modern
evolution. The lines that speak of travel and adventure are a primary
example of this. There are two main lines in this category and we
will discuss one here today.
The Life Line
(the major line that starts between the thumb and the forefinger
and curves down around the thumb in the direction of the base of
the palm) does not speak of how long you are going to live. It speaks
of family and grounding and security—first charka issues—but
it also is a clue to the gusto with which you live your life. A
Life Line that hugs closely to the thumb suggests a holding back,
perhaps a tentativeness about life, or even a vehement keeping of
one’s self from adventuring out.
Conversely,
a Life Line that curves out widely and allows for generous space
between it and the thumb says this person probably has a healthy
sense of adventure. Then, a line (as shown highlighted in yellow
on the pictured hand) that extends farther out still from the average
Life Line path, speaks of a fairly radically adventurous individual.
Someone, perhaps, who would be willing to give up a successful graphic
arts business in Northern California to go raise Labrador Retrievers
in the mountains of Colorado or a Midwestern housewife that was
willing to leave her husband and six children, sight unseen, for
an acting career in New York City.
This line, in
ancient times, was named “Death in a Foreign Land.”
Romantic, huh? What the name means, is that this individual is extremely
drawn to travel and adventure. They need to experience other cultures.
They are going to be prone, at least once in their life, to making
radical changes in lifestyle.
Why the ominous
title? Well, when the name of this line was coined, travel was an
arduous task. To uproot and visit another country took months, perhaps
even years, of physical, mental, and emotional strife. The person
that was willing to risk making this trip in the first place, was
not likely going to venture back again under those same circumstances,
even if they wanted to. Hence, they would spend the remainder of
their life (and die) in this foreign land.
Many of the
ancient names for other areas of the hand have similarly distressing
titles, like the condition of experiencing a redness in the palm
along the outer percussion on the pinkie finger side. This is called
“Death by Drowning,” but has nothing to do with actual
drowning or even death! That, however, is a story for another article.
